With Jaylen Waddle listed as doubtful for Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers, the Dolphins were relying heavily on their star wide receiver, Tyreek Hill. However, a wrist injury late Friday afternoon saw Hill added to the injury report with a questionable status for the game.
This uncertainty changed when ESPN’s NFL Insider, Adam Schefter, reported an update on the availability of several players for Sunday’s games, including Hill.
According to Schefter, Hill is expected to play, which is a major relief for Miami, as this game still carries playoff implications for the Dolphins, who are clinging to a slim chance of making the AFC playoffs.
With Hill in the lineup, Tua Tagovailoa should find more success than last week, when Miami’s offense struggled both on the ground and in the air. However, Hill has been underperforming this season, with only 67 catches on 104 targets for 805 yards and five touchdowns—his lowest career numbers.
This comes after Hill demonstrated in his first two seasons that he was more than just a product of Patrick Mahomes, even securing the top spot on NFL Network’s Top 100 player list. Despite his individual success, the Dolphins have little to show for it, aside from a loss on Super Wild Card Weekend. Still, Hill refuses to give up.
It might seem unfair to criticize Hill for his disappointing season, especially considering the wrist injury he’s been dealing with all year and the recent birth of his daughter. However, with the substantial money he’s being paid and the high expectations surrounding the team this season, it’s hard not to expect more from him. I had hoped this year would be different, but unfortunately, it has been in all the wrong ways.
