AUSTIN, Texas — Following the Texas Longhorns‘ 38-24 victory over the Clemson Tigers at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on Saturday, head coach Steve Sarkisian provided updates on three players who were injured on consecutive plays during the second quarter.
This difficult stretch included a six-yard loss on a screen pass and an interception return for a touchdown, which was nullified by an illegal blindside block that caused one of the injuries.
Sarkisian reported that sophomore running back Quintrevion Wisner injured his knee on the screen pass but was able to return in the second half. However, Sarkisian and the staff chose to use junior Jaydon Blue and freshman Jerrick Gibson instead. Wisner later returned for four carries, including a 19-yard run, finishing the game with 15 carries for 110 yards and two touchdowns.
The second player injured on the screen pass was junior left tackle Cam Williams, who briefly returned for one play but could not continue. Williams, a Duncanville native, will undergo an MRI on Saturday evening to assess the extent of his knee injury.
The blindside block also left Texas redshirt senior Jake Majors down on the field for several minutes. Sarkisian mentioned that Majors was available to return, but, like Wisner, the staff chose to keep him out for the remainder of the game.
Additionally, the Longhorns played without junior wide receiver Isaiah Bond on Saturday after he re-aggravated his ankle injury from the SEC Championship game when he was rolled up on. Bond did not take part in pregame warmups.
