Florida Football has adopted a relatively cautious and gradual strategy with the transfer portal. As of the weekend, the Gators had brought in four players, ranking as the fourth-lowest in the SEC. However, that number has now increased to five, as Florida has focused on strengthening a key position by adding a hard-hitting safety from UAB.
Florida Football: Here comes the pain
We highlighted Adrian Maddox a few weeks ago when he first came onto the Gators’ radar. After spending two seasons at Alabama State, he transferred to UAB for the 2024 season.
The statistics suggest that Maddox is a solid coverage safety, often playing more as a nickel or STAR rather than as a traditional free safety. In 2024, he didn’t allow a touchdown and recorded four pass breakups.
While his missed tackle rate is relatively high at 17%, what’s particularly striking about Maddox is his aggressive tackling style when he does make a hit.
Unafraid of contact, Maddox shares similarities with Trikweze Bridges in his approach to coming downhill and making a play.
The Georgia native had previously visited Georgia, Louisville, and Arkansas before ultimately choosing to join the Gators for the 2025 season. He will have one year of eligibility remaining.
