Big Ten Top Contenders Star commits to East Carolina

East Carolina has strengthened its defensive backfield by adding Jonathan Akins, a transfer from Maryland. The 6-foot, 175-pound cornerback is expected to contribute to ECU’s defense, where he will primarily compete at cornerback.

However, he also has the potential to move inside and play the nickel position, providing flexibility in the secondary. Akins brings valuable experience to the Pirates and will look to make an immediate impact in their defensive schemes.

With three years of eligibility remaining, he offers ECU a long-term asset in the defensive backfield, allowing the team to develop and utilize his skills over the next few seasons.

His addition strengthens an already promising defensive unit and adds depth to a position of need. Akins’ versatility and experience will be key as the Pirates look to improve their pass defense and overall defensive performance moving forward.
