Matt Rhule Lands Big 12 Top Talent in stunning Move

The Nebraska Cornhuskers had a strong season by recent standards, finishing 7-6 and securing their first bowl victory since 2015 by defeating Boston College in the Pinstripe Bowl. This marked their first winning season since 2016, when they went 9-4.

Nebraska’s defense was one of the team’s strongest aspects, ranking 17th in points allowed per game (19.5) and 18th in total yards allowed per game (317.9). Building on a solid year, the defense is set to improve further with the addition of transfer cornerback Marquis Groves-Killebrew, following his commitment to the team under head coach Rhule.

Coming out of high school in 2022, 247Sports ranked Groves-Killebrew as a four-star prospect, the 15th best cornerback, and the 114th overall player in the country. He initially signed with Texas A&M, where he recorded just two tackles during his freshman year.

In 2023, he transferred to Louisville but did not register any statistics. However, after moving to Arizona in 2024, Groves-Killebrew had his most productive season, recording 26 tackles, four pass deflections, and one sack.

Groves-Killebrew is just one of several high-profile defensive players Nebraska and coach Rhule have added through the transfer portal. He joins a strong group that includes four-star EDGE Williams Nwaneri, four-star linebacker Dasan McCullough, three-star cornerback Andrew Marshall, and three-star safety Justyn Rhett.
