Steelers Abruptly Cut Ties With Veteran Top Starter

Just when everything seemed set for the Wild Card Weekend matchup, the Pittsburgh Steelers made an unexpected roster decision, releasing wide receiver Scotty Miller.

“We have released WR Scotty Miller from the Active Roster,” the Steelers shared on X.

Mike DeFabo of The Athletic noted that Miller had struggled to secure a consistent spot in the lineup after the Steelers signed Mike Williams and Ben Skowronek returned to full health.

Although Miller had received praise throughout the season from offensive coordinator Arthur Smith and quarterback Russell Wilson, he never became a key part of the regular offense. He finished the regular season with 5 catches for 69 yards and 2 first downs across 13 games, having been targeted 9 times.

Miller’s limited impact on special teams also worked against him, logging only 10 special teams snaps compared to 210 offensive snaps.

As the Steelers’ wide receiver depth grew during the 2024 season, Miller likely became expendable. With roster changes underway, he could be a candidate to return to the practice squad.
