Dolphins Cut Ties with Special Teams Standout

The Miami Dolphins entered the season with high hopes after making two consecutive playoff appearances, but they ended up finishing with an 8-9 record, missing out on the postseason.

Tua Tagovailoa’s third concussion in his NFL career was a major blow to their aspirations, forcing the team to reassess their plans.

There has been speculation that head coach Mike McDaniel could be at risk of losing his job, but instead, the Dolphins recently parted ways with special teams coordinator Danny Crossman and wide receivers coach/pass game specialist Wes Welker, a five-time Pro Bowler, as reported by Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team.

Wes Welker is widely recognized by fans for his time as a wide receiver on the powerhouse New England Patriots teams under Bill Belichick and alongside Tom Brady, where he helped the team reach two Super Bowls.

He played for the Miami Dolphins from 2004 to 2006 before being traded to New England to join Brady.

Welker had served as Miami’s wide receivers coach since 2022, following a stint as the San Francisco 49ers’ wide receivers coach for three years and a two-year assistant coaching role with the Houston Texans.

Currently, the Dolphins’ biggest concern revolves around the future of star wide receiver Tyreek Hill. After the season finale, Hill made comments that seemed to hint at a desire for a trade, and how the team handles his situation could significantly shape their offseason plans.
