Nebraska boasts one of the top-ranked transfer portal classes in the Big Ten, but the Cornhuskers aren’t done yet in their pursuit of elite talent to strengthen their 2025 campaign.
A key focus for head coach Matt Rhule is bolstering the offensive line. Protecting star quarterback Dylan Raiola is a top priority for Nebraska in 2025. The more time Raiola has to survey the field, the quicker his development will progress in his second year as a starter. A stronger offensive line will also enhance the Huskers’ rushing attack.
So far, Nebraska has secured Elijah Pritchett, a former Alabama offensive tackle. Pritchett started 12 games for the Crimson Tide in 2024 and brings extensive experience at the highest level of college football. However, Nebraska is still looking to improve the offensive line through the transfer portal.
Enter Shiyazh Pete, a standout lineman from New Mexico State. Nebraska showed interest in Pete last month when he entered the portal, and the connection is gaining momentum. According to On3’s Pete Nakos, both Nebraska and Michigan are the frontrunners to land Pete, who has one year of eligibility remaining.
At an imposing 6-foot-8 and 320 pounds, Pete would be a major asset to Nebraska’s offensive line. The former first-team All-Conference USA player excelled as New Mexico State’s left tackle in 2023, earning multiple accolades. However, an ankle injury limited him to just six games in the 2024 season.
With the offense entering its first full year under new coordinator Dana Holgorsen, strengthening the line of scrimmage is a top priority this offseason. If the Huskers can secure Pete, it would be a significant boost to Raiola’s protection.
