Yankees to Sign $65.5 Million Reliever For ‘Sick’ Big Three in Bullpen

The New York Yankees have concentrated on strengthening their bullpen this offseason, bringing in two-time All-Star closer Devin Williams to shut down games and shifting Luke Weaver, who impressed in the ninth inning last season, back to the eighth.

However, they may take it a step further, with two prominent Yankees bloggers and podcasters suggesting that the team could assemble an almost unstoppable bullpen by adding one more free-agent reliever: left-hander Tanner Scott.

Scott, who recorded a career-high 22 saves in 2024—18 with the Miami Marlins and 4 after being traded to the San Diego Padres has a fastball that reaches up to 97 mph. Statcast data shows that he ranked in the top one percent of MLB pitchers in preventing hard contact, with batters averaging just 84.3 mph on exit velocity against him.

The 30-year-old allowed hard-hit balls on only 27.5% of the time hitters made contact. Scott also had a strong postseason, throwing 4 1/3 innings over four games for the Padres, allowing no runs on two hits, one walk, and striking out five.

Both the Fireside Yankees podcast and Bleeding Yankee Blue blog have strongly supported adding Scott to the Yankees bullpen. “A Scott-Weaver-Williams trio to close out games?” wrote Bleeding Yankee Blue. “That would be pure dominance. It would be sick. So, Yankees, what are you waiting for? Get on the Tanner Scott train before it leaves the station!”

Scott, who is coming off a one-year, $5.7 million contract with the Marlins, is projected by Spotrac to have a free-agent value of over $65.5 million for a four-year deal.
