Oregon Ducks Football Makes Big Moves For 2025

The Oregon Ducks entered the College Football Playoff 2025 as the top-ranked team, but their journey ended with a blowout loss to Ohio State in the quarterfinals. Oregon finished their first season in the Big Ten with a perfect 12-0 record and secured the conference title with a 45-37 win over Penn State. Head coach Dan Lanning, heading into his fourth season, is focused on enhancing the team’s roster for the upcoming season. The Ducks will be without veteran quarterback Dillon Gabriel, as sophomore Dante Moore is expected to take over as the starter.

Gabriel played a key role in leading Oregon to their second undefeated regular season in school history, meaning Moore will have big shoes to fill.

Oregon football roster news

Dillon Gabriel isn’t the only key offensive loss for Oregon, as junior running back Jordan James also declared for the 2025 NFL Draft this week. James just wrapped up his first 1,000-yard season with the Ducks after spending three years in Eugene, having initially committed to Georgia before switching to Oregon during the recruiting process. He becomes the second player to announce his decision to turn pro, following wide receiver Tez Johnson, who also declared for the draft.

Johnson led the Ducks with 83 receptions, 898 yards, and 10 touchdowns, despite missing one full game and part of another due to a shoulder injury.

On Monday, defensive tackle Derrick Harmon also declared for the draft, thanking head coach Dan Lanning and others for their support in a social media post. Harmon, who earned All-Big Ten honors, recorded five sacks, two forced fumbles, and a team-leading nine quarterback hurries.

In response to these departures, the Ducks are reportedly pursuing 4-star transfer running back Makhi Hughes from Tulane, who could step in immediately to replace James. Hughes had a standout season, rushing for 1,401 yards and 15 touchdowns for the Green Wave, and he has two years of eligibility remaining. After taking an official visit to Oregon, insiders at Duck Territory believe he is likely to join the Ducks. For the latest updates on the Oregon football roster, check out Duck Territory.
