Suns Star Loses Per Diem to Teammate Over Lions Bet!
The Phoenix Suns have encountered several hurdles this NBA season, but their two top players had some fun on Saturday night, thanks to the Detroit Lions‘ Divisional Round game. The matchup between the Lions and the Washington Commanders featured the hometown teams of Devin Booker and Kevin Durant, with a spot in the NFC Championship Game on the line.
Booker, who hails from Grand Rapids, Michigan, was supporting the Lions, while Durant, from Washington, D.C., was backing the Commanders. Ahead of the game, the two Suns stars joked about placing a bet on the outcome. According to Duane Rankin of the Arizona Republic, the wager was for their per diems during their current road trip, which amounted to $161 per day.
This meant the winner would claim $1,610. After the Commanders pulled off a surprising upset, Durant ended up winning the bet. Coincidentally, the Suns were in Detroit for a game against the Pistons on the same day, which they won 125-121, allowing Durant to celebrate the victory in the Commanders’ locker room.
Durant also got to visit his hometown during the Suns’ road trip, as they had just beaten the Washington Wizards in D.C. Next week, Durant will watch the d face the winner of the Eagles-Rams game. Meanwhile, Booker will have to wait until September to see if the Lions can build on their strong season and address the defensive issues that hindered their playoff run.
