Commander’s Key Player out for playoffs with torn ACL.

Washington Commanders starting right guard Sam Cosmi tore his ACL and is out for the rest of the NFL playoffs.

Coach Dan Quinn shared the “unfortunate news” on Sunday after Cosmi injured his right knee in the team’s 45-31 win over Detroit, which sent them to the NFC Championship game. Cosmi was seen with a large brace on the sideline after exiting the game.

“That’s a big deal, both the player and the person,” Quinn said about losing Cosmi.

Trent Scott stepped in for Cosmi at right guard during the Lions game, but it’s unclear what the plan will be moving forward.

Cosmi, one of the longest-tenured players in the organization, has been a key stabilizer on the offensive line in the first year of the new regime under general manager Adam Peters, who revamped the roster. Cosmi signed a four-year, $74 million deal with $45 million guaranteed before the season.

The offensive line has shown significant improvement, helping rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels as the team has turned things around after a 4-13 finish in 2023 under Ron Rivera.

Cosmi, a second-round pick from Texas in 2021, was initially drafted as a tackle but has excelled since transitioning to guard.
