The Nebraska football team has been actively pursuing an offensive lineman from the transfer portal, but so far, they’ve faced some tough competition, with several top targets going elsewhere.
However, earlier on Wednesday, a promising opportunity may have just landed in the Huskers’ lap. If they act quickly on Sam Pendleton, they could secure a skilled player from a team that made a run to the National Title game.
Pendleton, a member of the Notre Dame squad that fell to Ohio State in the season finale, could be a strong addition, especially if Nebraska shifted their focus to him after missing out on their previous target, Shiyazh Pete.
Nebraska football should close quickly on Sam Pendleton
Hopefully, the Huskers acted quickly when Sam Pendleton entered the transfer portal, especially considering he came in with a “do not contact” tag, which typically signals a player already has a destination in mind.
It’s more likely that Pendleton is heading back home—or close to it—since he’s from Pfafftown, North Carolina, and may be eyeing an ACC school. With a fresh, high-profile head coach now at the helm of the Tar Heels, they could be a top contender for his commitment.
If it’s not UNC, I really hope Nebraska made their move early and got their foot in the door with a lineman who started seven games for the National Championship runner-up. While Pendleton isn’t exactly what the Huskers have been targeting (as he played guard this past season and is more of an interior lineman), his versatility should still be a major asset.
Under Matt Rhule, Nebraska has shown a preference for linemen who can be flexible, and Pendleton would be a huge win—he’s not leaving Notre Dame because he couldn’t cut it, but because their O-line depth is pretty stacked heading into 2025.
