Gophers Offer Scholarship to Explosive 2026 Texas Star RB

Dionne Sims, a three-star junior running back from Houston, Texas, is quickly becoming one of the most exciting prospects in the 2026 class. The Gophers extended him a scholarship offer on Thursday night.

Standing 5-foot-8 and weighing 160 pounds, Sims might be considered slightly undersized, but he is undeniably one of the most explosive athletes in the nation. In addition to football, he competes in track at C.E. King High School, where he qualified for the Texas 6A regional meet in the 400-meter event with a personal best time of 47.42 seconds. He also participates in the 100m, 200m, and long jump.

During his junior season, Sims accumulated 1,047 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns on 120 carries, playing at the highest level of Texas high school football. According to 247Sports‘ composite rankings, he is the No. 649 player in the 2026 class, the No. 49 running back, and the No. 86 player in Texas.

Sims has also received offers from Oregon, Illinois, Arizona, and Houston.

Though the Gophers are relatively early in his recruitment, with only five Power Five offers so far, Sims is one of 12 running backs Minnesota has extended offers to in the 2026 class.

Minnesota has a strong track record of identifying running back talent, and Sims appears to be one of their most promising targets in this recruiting cycle.
