Islanders Snag Top Defenseman in Trade with Florida!
The New York Islanders have claimed defenseman Adam Boqvist off waivers from the Florida Panthers. The 24-year-old Swede has played 18 games this season, tallying two goals and four assists for six points. Over his six-year NHL career, Boqvist has accumulated 91 points (25 goals, 66 assists) in 227 games, playing with the Panthers, Columbus Blue Jackets, and Chicago Blackhawks.
Before hitting the NHL, Boqvist made a name for himself with the London Knights in the OHL, earning a spot on the OHL Second All-Star Team in 2018-19 after posting 60 points (20 goals, 40 assists) in 54 games. He also had a brief stint with Brynas IF in Sweden’s SHL, where he registered one assist in 15 games.
Internationally, Boqvist starred for Sweden, winning a bronze medal at the 2018 IIHF U18 World Championship, where he led all defensemen with three goals and seven points, also earning Best Defenseman honors. He also helped Sweden capture a bronze at the 2017 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament.
Boqvist was originally drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks 8th overall in the 2018 NHL Draft.
