Patriots Linked to Popular RB in Major Steal

The New England Patriots don’t necessarily “need” to focus on the running back position this offseason, as Rhamondre Stevenson is expected to remain the starter heading into the 2025 season.

However, Stevenson has a history of fumble problems, which could frustrate Mike Vrabel and the revamped coaching staff. This might prompt the Patriots to seek a backup option this offseason.

While it’s unlikely New England will target a prominent free agent or draft a running back early, there are several intriguing prospects in the fourth or fifth rounds who could be a fit.

One such player is Arizona State’s Cam Skattebo.

In his latest seven-round mock draft, Ian Valentino of AtoZ Sports has the Patriots selecting Skattebo in the fourth round with the 105th overall pick.

Skattebo gained national attention during Arizona State’s 2024 season. Known for his tough, aggressive running style, he can grind out tough yards and is also capable of breaking off big plays.

Throughout the 2024 season, Skattebo rushed 293 times for 1,711 yards and 21 touchdowns, averaging an impressive 5.8 yards per carry. He also added 45 receptions for 605 yards and three touchdowns.

With his dual-threat ability, Skattebo has the potential to develop into a reliable three-down back. Although he may be seen as a mid-round pick, he could eventually become a starter.

In New England, Skattebo would compete with Stevenson, and if Stevenson continues to struggle with fumbles, Skattebo could serve as a solid alternative for the Patriots.

It’s still uncertain where Skattebo will land, but New England could be an exciting destination for him.
