Blockbuster Deal: Yankees Land All-Star in New York with a $260 Million Contract.

After losing Juan Soto to the New York Mets, the Yankees wasted no time making roster upgrades. They traded for Cody Bellinger and Devin Williams, while also signing Paul Goldschmidt and Max Fried. However, they may still be in the market for an infielder.

Currently, New York plans to use a platoon at either second or third base, depending on where Jazz Chisholm Jr. plays. But FanSided’s Zach Pressnell has proposed a trade that could bring Nolan Arenado from the St. Louis Cardinals to the Bronx, solidifying the Yankees’ infield.

Proposed Trade:

Yankees receive: 3B Nolan Arenado and $30 million
Cardinals receive: INF Jorbit Vivas (Yankees’ No. 17 prospect)

Nolan Arenado 'Really Likes' Idea of Trade to American League East Team

Pressnell suggests the Cardinals might not want to cover more than $20 million of Arenado’s remaining contract, but he believes that wouldn’t be an issue for Brian Cashman. The trade would essentially be a salary dump for St. Louis, allowing the Yankees to land a proven star without giving up significant assets.

Arenado originally signed an eight-year, $260 million contract with the Colorado Rockies before being traded to the Cardinals. While he still has a substantial amount left on his deal, he may have leverage if he pushes for a move.

A 10-time Gold Glover, eight-time All-Star, five-time Silver Slugger, and six-time Platinum Glover, Arenado would immediately slot in as the Yankees’ everyday third baseman, allowing Chisholm to take over at second. Last season, Arenado hit .272/.325/.394, which would provide an upgrade over DJ LeMahieu, who is currently expected to split time wherever Chisholm isn’t playing.
