Two Key Indicators Reveal Seattle’s 2025 Quarterback Choice!
Geno Smith’s future with the Seattle Seahawks in 2025 has been a major topic this offseason, with key developments offering a clearer picture of the team’s stance.
The first sign came from Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald during a FOX 13 TV interview, where he confidently declared, “Geno’s our quarterback.” Macdonald emphasized the team’s belief in Smith’s leadership and potential, especially with new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak in place. He expressed confidence in winning a championship with Smith at the helm.

The second signal appeared on the Seahawks’ social media after the Super Bowl, with a post featuring a photo of Smith in the Lumen Field tunnel and the caption: “2025 SEASON STARTS NOW.” Former NFL QB Brock Huard pointed out that the post wasn’t accidental but intentional messaging from the team to signal their commitment to Smith.
However, Smith’s rising salary cap hit, set to increase from $26.4 million in 2024 to $44.5 million in 2025, complicates matters. Despite this, it’s expected that the Seahawks will restructure Smith’s deal to keep him in Seattle for the long term. Huard is confident that the team will find a way to redo the contract, ensuring Smith remains in place for 2025.
Adding further support, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported that the Seahawks are “all-in” on Smith for 2025, with his 2025 salary set to be about $25 million, on the low end for a veteran QB. Pelissero noted that the team is likely to adjust Smith’s contract to ensure fair compensation while maintaining flexibility for future quarterback plans.
It’s clear that Geno Smith will be back as Seattle’s starting quarterback in 2025, with a contract that balances immediate needs and long-term goals.
