The Detroit Lions fell short of their Super Bowl dreams in 2024, and now they need to reload their roster to make a stronger push in 2025.
To take the next step, the Lions must improve their pass rush, as they finished with only 37 sacks in 2024, ranking 23rd in the NFL. While injuries played a role, it’s clear Detroit needs to add more depth and find a long-term partner for Aidan Hutchinson.
With this in mind, Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport highlighted the idea of the Lions acquiring Las Vegas Raiders star edge rusher Maxx Crosby as a “dream offseason trade scenario.”
Davenport noted, “Crosby would be expensive, both in terms of draft picks and the hefty new contract he’d likely demand. But there’s no team more in ‘win-now’ mode than Detroit, and it’s no secret they need a solid partner for Aidan Hutchinson on the edge.”
While the Raiders currently have no plans to trade Crosby, and he hasn’t requested a trade either, the four-time Pro Bowler has been vocal about his frustration with the franchise’s struggles, especially after a tough season with injuries and a 10-game losing streak. He’s expressed doubts about his future in Las Vegas, saying, “This past year was the hardest part of my career. Battling through injury, losing 10 games in a row, it makes you question a lot of things.”
Despite this, Crosby recently revealed he’s feeling more optimistic, thanks to the hiring of Pete Carroll as head coach and John Spytek as general manager, which suggests he might stick around in Vegas for the time being.
However, if the Raiders endure another tough season in 2025, Crosby could potentially request a trade, either at the deadline or the following offseason.
If that happens, the Lions should pounce on the opportunity, especially if they’re unable to make a similar trade for Cleveland Browns star Myles Garrett. Adding Crosby to Detroit’s defense would create one of the NFL’s most fearsome pass-rush duos with Hutchinson, significantly boosting their chances of making a Super Bowl run.
Plus, Crosby might be open to a move to Detroit, as he grew up a Lions fan and would be eager for a shot at competing for a championship with his hometown team.
