Broncos LB coach arrested, Facing Serious Charges.

Broncos linebackers coach Michael Wilhoite was arrested on Sunday night and is facing accusations of assaulting a police officer. He was booked in the Denver downtown jail on suspicion of second-degree assault of a police officer and is scheduled for a court appearance Monday morning. The Broncos have yet to release details about the circumstances surrounding the arrest but issued a brief statement acknowledging the situation.

“We are aware of a situation involving Michael Wilhoite that occurred Sunday and are in the process of gathering more information,” the team said.

Wilhoite, 38, had an unconventional journey to the NFL. After going undrafted out of Division II Washburn in 2011, he began his professional career in the United Football League. His performance there earned him attention from the NFL, leading to a brief playing career with the 49ers and Seahawks as a linebacker.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Wilhoite transitioned to coaching in 2019 under Sean Payton with the Saints, then moved to the Chargers as linebackers coach for two seasons in 2021 and 2022. In 2023, Payton brought him to Denver to join the Broncos coaching staff. The situation regarding his arrest remains unclear, with more information expected to surface after the legal proceedings.
