PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers have a wide range of options to consider at wide receiver this offseason, with numerous free agents and potential trade targets available. One player they thought was out of reach was Tee Higgins, as the Cincinnati Bengals intended to franchise tag him. However, things might not be progressing as smoothly for the Steelers’ AFC North rivals.
Higgins, like many others in the NFL, observed his head coach and general manager begin their work at the NFL Combine. GM Duke Tobin expressed optimism about negotiations between Cincinnati and Higgins, suggesting that the Bengals are confident they can retain both Higgins and Ja’Marr Chase this offseason.
However, Higgins may not share that sentiment. He posted a cryptic message on social media, which added some drama and possibly shed light on the ongoing struggles in the negotiations.

Higgins would undoubtedly be the top free agent this offseason if the Bengals let him hit the market. Instead, they’re likely to tag him, which would leave the door open for a long-term deal with Cincinnati, a trade, or the possibility of him playing on another one-year contract for 2025.
If negotiations continue to falter, Higgins and the Bengals could be headed for a messy split. The Steelers would certainly be eager to capitalize on that situation, seeing it as an opportunity to sign one of the top wide receivers available — a player they’ve seen dominate against them multiple times over the years.
