Michigan State is actively pursuing 2026 four-star linebacker Nick Abrams II, a versatile and dynamic defender from McDonogh School in Maryland.
Abrams has placed the Spartans in his top 10, alongside a powerhouse group of schools like Georgia, Alabama, Penn State, Oregon, and Michigan. Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 215 pounds, Abrams’ decision could hinge on the relationship he has developed with Spartan linebackers coach and defensive coordinator Joe Rossi.
Rossi’s NFL experience is a big draw, but it’s the personal connection that has made a real impact on Abrams.
“He’s a great defensive mind,” Abrams said. “We’ve had a lot of talks over the phone and he’s shown me some film. He’s a family man, and that’s important to me. Coaching demands a lot of your time, but he makes sure to prioritize his family, which is something I really respect. I want to go to a place with a family atmosphere, and I can see he values that balance.”
Abrams has made it clear that his relationship with Rossi is something he doesn’t take lightly, noting that Rossi has visited him at school twice.
While the coaching staff’s family-oriented culture is crucial in Abrams’ recruitment, it’s not the only factor weighing on his decision. He’s also placing a heavy emphasis on academics and future career opportunities beyond football.
“Education and connections are key for me,” Abrams explained. “I want to make connections with people from various industries and set myself up for success when football ends. Academics and those opportunities will play a major role in my decision.”
This focus on academics and long-term success aligns with the priorities emphasized by the Jonathan Smith-led coaching staff, which has resonated with recruits in the past.
