Eagles’ Super Bowl DT Cut Ties/Unravels: Key Players Sign Deals with Patriots and Cardinal

The Philadelphia Eagles‘ Super Bowl-winning defense is quickly unraveling, just over a month after their dominant victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in New Orleans to claim the Lombardi Trophy.

On Monday afternoon, a flurry of player moves hit the NFL, and the Eagles were not immune to the roster shakeups. At 2:12 p.m. ET, Ian Rapoport reported that defensive tackle Milton Williams had signed with the New England Patriots. Adam Schefter later revealed that the deal was a four-year, $104 million contract, with $63 million guaranteed. Schefter also mentioned that the Carolina Panthers had entered the bidding for Williams, but they couldn’t match New England’s offer.PH

Just minutes later, Schefter reported that linebacker Josh Sweat had reached a four-year agreement worth $76.4 million, including $41 million guaranteed, with the Arizona Cardinals. The deal was negotiated by agent Drew Rosenhaus, who also secured a one-year, $2 million deal for wide receiver Braxton Berrios with the Texans earlier on Monday.

Williams, 25, was drafted by the Eagles in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft from Louisiana Tech. Over four years with the Eagles, he recorded 66 solo tackles, 66 assisted tackles, and 11.5 sacks.

Together, Williams and Sweat totaled 17 tackles and 4.5 sacks during the postseason before leaving Philadelphia. They also contributed four tackles in the defensive showcase against Kansas City in the Super Bowl win.

New England finished last in the AFC East with a 4-13 record, while the Cardinals finished third in the NFC West at 8-9.
