Nebraska hires new GM to lead recruiting and retention from Patriots.
Pat Stewart, who has served as the New England Patriots’ director of pro personnel for the past two seasons, has been named general manager of Nebraska’s football program under head coach Matt Rhule, the school announced.

Previously the director of player personnel for the Carolina Panthers during Rhule’s tenure from 2020 to 2022, Stewart will oversee Nebraska’s roster management and player acquisition, including recruiting, evaluation, and retention of both high school prospects and transfer portal players.
“As college football evolves, roster management and retention are becoming more similar to the NFL model,” Rhule said. “Pat Stewart will help us build and maintain a competitive roster, positioning Nebraska among the nation’s top programs. Given our past experience working together, I’m excited to welcome him to the Nebraska Football family.”
Stewart began his NFL career with the Patriots from 2007 to 2017, later working with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2018-19 before joining the Panthers. He returned to New England in 2023.
