Top QB Rejoining the Commanders on a one-year contract.
Quarterback Marcus Mariota is staying with the Washington Commanders, signing a one-year contract to return for a second season, according to multiple reports.

The 31-year-old veteran will remain the backup to franchise quarterback Jayden Daniels. Last season, Mariota brought stability to the locker room and stepped in for Daniels in three games.
During those appearances, he completed 34 of 44 passes for 364 yards and four touchdowns while also rushing for 92 yards and a score, all without committing a turnover.
Mariota, a former Oregon standout, joined the Commanders last offseason and quickly built a strong bond with Daniels. Throughout Daniels’ Rookie of the Year campaign, Mariota served as a mentor, offering guidance on handling the pressure that comes with being a top draft pick.
Daniels frequently credited Mariota for his encouragement, both on the sideline and in team meetings.
“It just continues breathing confidence and life into an individual. And speaking positive,” Daniels said of Mariota in January. “Even before I ever got here, he’s always been a guy that’s very genuine, very nice, and just was like, ‘If you need anything, just let me know.’”
Mariota is the latest veteran to re-sign with Washington this offseason, joining other key locker room leaders like tight end Zach Ertz, linebacker Bobby Wagner, and punter Tress Way, all of whom also agreed to one-year deals this month.
