Bucks’ Center out for season after surgery.

Milwaukee Bucks backup center Jericho Sims is expected to miss the remainder of the regular season after having surgery Monday morning to fix a torn ligament in his right thumb.

Jericho Sims injured his right thumb during the Bucks’ 126-119 win over the Indiana Pacers on Saturday but still played 12 minutes in Sunday’s 121-105 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Bucks announced that Sims is expected to be sidelined for four weeks, making his return likely for the postseason. The NBA playoffs begin on April 19, with play-in games scheduled for April 15-18. Milwaukee (38-29) currently holds the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference, while the play-in tournament features teams finishing between seventh and 10th place.

Milwaukee acquired Sims from the New York Knicks at the trade deadline in exchange for Delon Wright. He had been a key bench contributor for the Bucks, especially after their frontcourt depth was impacted by Bobby Portis‘ 25-game suspension on February 25 for testing positive for the painkiller Tramadol.

In 14 games with the Bucks, Sims has averaged 2.4 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 15 minutes per game. Before the trade, the 6-foot-10 center appeared in 39 games for the Knicks, averaging 1.6 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 10.8 minutes per contest.
