Vikings Lock in First-Round CB Star with One-Year Deal for 2025

After meeting with the Vikings on Monday, former first-round cornerback Jeff Okudah is set to sign a one-year deal with the team, according to NFL insider Adam Schefter. Okudah, who most recently played with the Houston Texans, appeared in six games for a team that reached the divisional round of the playoffs.

The 26-year-old Okudah was drafted by the Detroit Lions in 2020 as a first-round pick. In his rookie season, he started six games and played in nine, recording 47 tackles, two pass breakups, and one interception. Injuries limited him to just one game in 2021, but he bounced back in 2022 with 15 starts for the Lions. That season, he posted a career-high 73 tackles, one interception returned for a touchdown, and seven pass breakups.

Before joining the Texans, Okudah played for the Atlanta Falcons in 2023, starting nine games and appearing in 13 overall, marking his second-most games played in a season since being drafted. He finished the year with 44 tackles and three pass breakups.

The Vikings’ signing of Okudah is considered a low-cost move to bolster their cornerback depth while offering the former high draft pick an opportunity to revitalize his career under defensive coordinator Brian Flores. If successful, Okudah could not only contribute as a rotational corner but also provide the Vikings with a potential compensatory draft pick if he excels in Minnesota.
