Vikings eye $180M QB after Rodgers’ decision!
It appears increasingly likely that the Minnesota Vikings are prepared to enter the 2025 season with second-year quarterback J.J. McCarthy as their starter. This comes after weeks of speculation connecting free agent Aaron Rodgers to Minnesota, but according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the team has decided to move on and explore other veteran options. One potential candidate, as noted by ESPN’s Kevin Seifert, is 40-year-old Joe Flacco, who is set to begin his 18th NFL season.

“The Vikings still need to secure a veteran backup for McCarthy, as several options signed elsewhere while they were considering Rodgers,” Seifert wrote. “At the moment, Brett Rypien is the only other quarterback on the roster. Other possibilities include veterans Joe Flacco and Carson Wentz.”
Since 2018, Joe Flacco has played for five different teams, never starting more than 10 games in a single season, making him more of an emergency option. In 2024, he appeared in eight games for the Indianapolis Colts, completing 162 of 248 passes for 1,616 yards, 12 touchdowns, and seven interceptions, with a 90.5 passer rating.
However, he experienced a brief resurgence with the Cleveland Browns in 2023, earning AP Comeback Player of the Year after starting five games and completing 123 of 204 passes for 1,616 yards, 13 touchdowns, and eight interceptions, posting a 90.2 passer rating. Flacco would also be an affordable option for the Vikings, as Spotrac estimates his market value at $3.2 million per year—just a small fraction of his $180 million career earnings.
