Nebraska Football Lands Game-Changing Transfer Portal Addition

Matt Rhule and the Nebraska Cornhuskers bolstered their offensive line with a major addition from the transfer portal this past weekend. On Sunday, former Notre Dame inside offensive lineman Rocco Spindler announced his commitment to Nebraska ahead of the 2025 college football season.

Spindler is considered one of the top three inside offensive linemen in this year’s transfer portal, according to On3 Sports. The 325-pound Michigan native started 23 games for the Fighting Irish over the past two seasons, including every College Football Playoff game leading up to Notre Dame’s national championship appearance in January. Spindler’s postseason experience adds significant value to Nebraska’s offensive line. He played all 63 snaps in Notre Dame’s loss to Ohio State in the title game before entering the transfer portal just days later.

Spindler chose Nebraska over other schools like Indiana, Pittsburgh, Virginia, and Michigan. He will join the Cornhuskers for his final season of eligibility. Nebraska returns two of its starting inside offensive linemen from the 2024 season: right guard Henry Lutovsky and left guard Justin Evans. Additionally, the program added former Alabama starting tackle Elijah Pritchett from the transfer portal last month.

Spindler becomes Nebraska’s 16th transfer this cycle, contributing to the Cornhuskers’ No. 5 ranked transfer portal class according to 247Sports.

After making their first bowl-game appearance under Matt Rhule last season with a 7-6 record, Nebraska is poised for improvement with a strengthened offensive line. The Cornhuskers will open their 2025 season with a matchup against the Cincinnati Bearcats on August 28.
