Two Minnesota Gophers’ Standouts Earn All-American Honors

On Friday, former Minnesota Gophers hockey standouts Jimmy Snuggerud and Sam Rinzel were honored as 2024-25 AHCA/CCM All-Americans, as voted by the American Hockey Coaches’ Association. Rinzel secured a coveted first-team spot, while Snuggerud was named to the second team. Both players have since debuted in the NHL, each already notching their first professional points.

Rinzel, the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year and an All-Big Ten First Team pick, dominated with 32 points (10 goals, 22 assists), including two game-winners. He topped all Big Ten defensemen in points.

Snuggerud, also an All-Big Ten First Team honoree and a top-10 Hobey Baker Award finalist, led the Gophers with 51 points (24 goals, 27 assists). His 19 goals in Big Ten play paced the conference. As a team captain, Snuggerud made history alongside his father, Dave—a 1989 second-team All-American—as the first father-son duo to earn All-America honors in Gophers history.

With their selections, Minnesota’s storied program now boasts 74 All-Americans.
