Steelers Get Major College QB News Ahead of Draft

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers have a quarterback strategy in place, though the details remain unclear. However, their potential approach is becoming evident.

A top option appears to be targeting elite prospects in the 2026 NFL Draft, with names like Arch Manning, Garrett Nussmeier, and Nico Iamaleava expected to lead the class. Recent developments, however, may alter this outlook.

ESPN’s Pete Thamel reports that Tennessee is parting ways with Iamaleava after he reportedly missed spring practice and meetings. Coach Josh Heupel addressed the team about the decision, with Iamaleava’s absence from Friday’s practice being the final straw, per Thamel.

Iamaleava is likely to enter the transfer portal to continue his college career elsewhere, leaving his NFL future uncertain. After posting 2,616 yards, 19 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions last season, he’ll now adapt to a new offense, which could either be a seamless shift or require time to re-establish himself.

If Iamaleava’s transfer removes him from the 2026 draft board, it narrows Pittsburgh’s options. His athleticism and versatility would likely have made him a top target for the Steelers, both now and next year.

With uncertainties surrounding Manning and Iamaleava, Pittsburgh might shift focus to the 2025 draft, potentially eyeing a high-profile talent like Shedeur Sanders.

This NCAA shakeup raises questions for the Steelers. As the 2025 NFL Draft approaches, Pittsburgh’s front office has plenty to discuss and strategize.
