The Michigan State Spartans continued strengthening their roster on Sunday by securing a transfer commitment from former Purdue Boilermakers guard Rashunda Jones.
Jones, who still has two years of eligibility left, shared the news on X (formerly Twitter), writing:
“Spiders aren’t green, but this one is! GO GREEN! God I THANK YOU!”
Rashunda Jones, a 5-foot-8 guard from South Bend, Indiana, is set to bring her talents to East Lansing for her final two collegiate seasons after logging significant minutes at Purdue, where she averaged 27.7 per game. She joins a Michigan State squad that has been hovering near the top of the Big Ten and aiming for a deep postseason run.
Jones is coming off her best collegiate season, putting up 9.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.1 steals per game on a struggling 10-19 Boilermakers team. Now, she’s poised to make an impact on a Spartans roster loaded with potential, eyeing a starting role in what could be a championship-contending group.
Known for her efficiency in the paint and at the line, Jones shot an impressive 47.1% from the field and 84.9% from the free-throw line. Her standout performance came in a late-season game against Penn State, where she dropped a season-high 32 points—cementing her status as a go-to scorer heading into next year.
With the graduation of senior guard Julia Ayrault, a starting spot has opened up, and Jones is a prime candidate to step in and shine. She’ll team up with veteran players like Theryn Hallock and Grace Van Slooten, forming a strong core expected to lead the Spartans offensively.
Despite falling out of the Top 25 late in the season, Michigan State reached the NCAA Tournament’s Round of 32 for the second year in a row and third time since 2021. With Jones in the mix for 2025-26, the Spartans look ready to make an even bigger push toward Big Ten and national success.
