Star Man Warming Up for Phillies Comeback!
Phillies utility player Weston Wilson is currently on a rehab assignment with Low-A Clearwater as he works his way back from an oblique injury suffered in spring training. The assignment can last through April 28, at which point the team must decide whether to add him to the 26-man roster or option him to the minors. Since this is Wilson’s final minor league option year, he would likely be sent to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Kody Clemens, who is out of options and would likely be claimed if designated for assignment, is expected to remain on the major league roster—making a Wilson option the most probable scenario.

In four rehab games, Wilson has struggled at the plate, posting a .100/.357/.100 slash line with no RBIs or home runs, alongside a 67 wRC+, .295 wOBA, and a .143 BABIP. He’s shown patience with a 28.6% walk rate and a manageable 21.4% strikeout rate. Defensively, he’s appeared primarily in left field (three starts) and once at third base—both positions where the Phillies have had significant offensive struggles.
Brandon Marsh, in particular, is slumping badly, going 1-for-36 with a 2 wRC+ since March 30. Alec Bohm has also been cold at the plate, owning the worst wRC+ among players with at least 30 plate appearances since that date. While both have minor league options remaining and could theoretically be sent down, there’s no indication the Phillies are considering that route.
For now, the likeliest scenario is Wilson being optioned to Triple-A once his rehab ends, with Clemens staying on the big-league roster. However, if struggles from Marsh or Bohm persist, Wilson could emerge as a roster option, especially given his defensive versatility.
