Spartans Lands Standout Transfer From Big-12

The Michigan State Spartans significantly boosted their potential for the upcoming season by securing the transfer of former Arizona State junior guard Jalyn Brown, who announced her commitment on social media Monday. With one year of eligibility remaining, Brown joins the Spartans after a challenging season at Arizona State, where the Sun Devils finished 10-22 overall and 3-15 in Big 12 play, second-worst in the conference. Brown’s talent made her transfer predictable.

In her junior year, Brown led Arizona State, averaging a career-best 18.0 points on 41% shooting, with 4.0 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.1 steals per game. She started 27 of 29 games, logging 32.7 minutes per contest, and is expected to take on a similar role at MSU. After minimal playing time as a freshman at Louisville, Brown has averaged at least 17 points over her two seasons with the Sun Devils, improving her free-throw shooting to 81.3% and hitting 31.8% from three last season.

Brown excels at attacking the rim, using her speed and quickness to drive past defenders and finish through contact. While capable of shooting from deep, her strength lies in slashing and scoring at the basket.

With the departure of senior guard Julia Ayrault, who went undrafted in the 2025 WNBA Draft and is now pursuing free-agent opportunities, the Spartans needed a dynamic, high-scoring guard. Brown fits the bill and is projected to start at point guard or shooting guard for a rising MSU team that was ranked nationally for much of last season and reached the NCAA Tournament’s Round of 32, their best showing since 2019.

The Spartans shot 44.3% from the field last season, a middle-of-the-pack mark in the Big Ten. Brown’s scoring prowess could elevate that figure, potentially leading to more wins and deeper postseason runs in both the Big Ten and NCAA tournaments.
