Michigan State has secured its second transfer commitment of the spring.
Former transfer guard Trey Fort has committed to the Spartans, according to a report by Joe Tipton of On3.
Fort earned All-Southern Third Team honors last season, putting up averages of 14.6 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game. He also posted an impressive shooting performance, hitting nearly 45% from the field and close to 38% from three-point range on 6.4 attempts per game.
Michigan State has added another key piece to its roster, as Trey Fort becomes the Spartans’ second transfer commit this spring.
Fort will be joining his fourth collegiate program, having previously played for UT Martin, Mississippi State, and most recently Samford. During his lone season in the SEC with Mississippi State (2023-24), he averaged 5.0 points across 20 games, starting seven of them.
Spartan fans may remember Fort from earlier this season, when he faced Michigan State as a member of Samford during a November matchup in East Lansing. He played 22 minutes in that game but was limited to just 4 points.
Fort had a strong overall season at Samford, scoring over 20 points in seven games, including a standout 36-point performance against NCAA Tournament team Wofford. His commitment helps address a key need for Michigan State at the shooting guard position, where he is expected to start, with freshman Kur Teng likely serving as his backup.
Head coach Tom Izzo continues to reshape the roster after losing his top three scorers from last season. Fort’s arrival follows the recent commitment of veteran wing Kaleb Glenn, another important addition following the departures of Jaden Akins and Frankie Fidler.
With Fort and Glenn on board, and a solid core returning—including guards Jeremy Fears Jr. and Teng, forwards Coen Carr, Jaxon Kohler, and Jesse McCulloch, center Carson Cooper, and incoming freshman forward Cam Ward—the Spartans have quickly rebuilt their depth and strengthened their lineup.
A backup point guard remains a priority, but as of April 18, Michigan State is in a strong position heading into next season, just as Izzo promised.
