Eric Penick, a legendary Notre Dame running back and vital member of the 1973 national championship team, has passed away at 71. His iconic 85-yard run against USC in 1973 was instrumental in securing Notre Dame’s ninth national title.
A highly touted recruit, Penick made an immediate impact, amassing 727 rushing yards in 1972, the second-highest single-season total by a Fighting Irish running back at the time.
