Jaydon Wright, a redshirt freshman running back from Kankakee, Illinois, is entering the transfer portal, per Monday reports. A 2024 Minnesota signee, Wright chose the Gophers over Illinois, Syracuse, and West Virginia but redshirted in 2024-25, retaining four years of eligibility. With Marshall transfer A.J. Turner and Washington’s Cameron Davis joining the roster, Wright fell to at least fifth on the depth chart behind Darius Taylor, Turner, Davis, and redshirt freshman Fame Ijeboi.
At Bishop McNamara High School, Wright rushed for over 1,200 yards and 20 touchdowns as a junior in 2022 but dipped to under 900 yards and 10 scores as a senior. With Minnesota adding three running backs in its 2025 recruiting class, Wright faced a crowded backfield. He becomes the third Gophers scholarship player to hit the portal this spring, following quarterback Zach Pyron and freshman linebacker David Amaliri.
