EAGLES TURN TO EX-LIONS HEAD COACH MATT PATRICIA AS DEFENSIVE PLAYCALLER
It seems like the Philadelphia Eagles are making a significant change in their coaching staff, particularly on the defensive side, in response to their underperforming defense. Hiring Matt Patricia to take over the playcalling role on defense reflects the team’s determination to address their defensive struggles.
Matt Patricia has a background in coaching defense, having previously served as the defensive coordinator for the New England Patriots from 2012 to 2017. However, his head coaching tenure with the Detroit Lions from 2018 to 2020 did not yield the desired results, resulting in his mid-season dismissal during his third year.
The Eagles, despite having a solid 10-3 record, are evidently facing challenges on the defensive front. Their decision to bring in Patricia, who is now the senior defensive assistant, suggests a proactive approach to turning things around. It’s worth noting that while the team is performing well in terms of wins and losses, the defensive rankings indicate room for improvement, with the team currently sitting at 22nd in yards allowed per game and having allowed a significant number of touchdowns.
Time will tell if Patricia’s involvement will bring about the desired improvements in the Eagles’ defense. Coaching changes can sometimes provide the spark needed to revitalize a team, and the Eagles are likely hoping that Patricia’s experience and expertise will make a positive impact on their defensive performance.
