Tucker Addington signed to replace long snapper Camaron Cheeseman
The Washington Commanders finally parted ways with long snapper Camaron Cheeseman yesterday, a decision that should have been made months ago. Cheeseman altered his snapping technique during the off-season, leading to consistent struggles since training camp. Although Tress Way’s exceptional skills have mitigated the impact of Cheeseman’s erratic snaps, a recent punt snap against the Rams nearly jeopardized Way’s participation in the game, as he had to secure the ball after it skipped on the ground and was subsequently tackled.
Despite Ron Rivera acknowledging the issue throughout the season, he steadfastly resisted making a change. Following the Week 2 victory over the Broncos, Washington conducted tryouts for five long snappers, retaining Cheeseman while two of the tryout players signed with other teams. In a strategic move, Washington is reportedly adding long snapper Tucker Addington to the practice squad, intending to elevate him for the final three games. This decision provides roster flexibility and allows the next coaching staff to evaluate Addington on film.
Undrafted from Sam Houston State in 2020, Tucker Addington entered professional football two years later with the USFL’s Houston Gamblers, where he was drafted in the 6th round. After a stint on the Dallas Cowboys’ practice squad and losing a competition for the long snapper position, he secured the role with the New England Patriots, playing in three games as an injury replacement. Released by the Jacksonville Jaguars before the start of the season, Addington now gets an opportunity with the Washington Commanders.

Addington will integrate into the team this week, focusing on synchronization with punter Tress Way and kicker Joey Slye. If he can deliver consistent, quality snaps without compromising Way’s performance, he stands a chance for a three-game audition to extend his NFL career.
