Report: Newcastle is currently considering a move to sign a “elite” forward who is quicker than Phil Foden.

Newcastle now eyeing move to sign ‘elite’ forward who’s even faster than Phil Foden

According to reporter Marco Conterio, Newcastle United is now in the running to acquire the services of the Canadian striker. Due to an ongoing injury crisis at Newcastle, manager Eddie Howe is eager to bolster the squad in January. With key players already sidelined, the Magpies are expected to focus on signing a new midfielder following Sandro Tonali’s suspension. However, it appears they are also considering a move for the talented forward Jonathan David, who gained attention from Tottenham during the summer after scoring 24 goals in Ligue 1 for Lille last season.

If Conterio’s information is accurate, Newcastle has expressed interest in signing the Canadian international. Despite David’s slightly reduced goal output this season, with nine goal involvements in 22 appearances, he is recognized for his exceptional qualities, particularly his speed and direct playing style. SpeedsDB even ranks him as faster than Manchester City’s Phil Foden, with a top speed of 32.6 km/h

Conterio asserts that Newcastle has initiated discussions regarding a potential move for the 23-year-old forward. While Alexander Isak already provides pace in the forward position and has performed well since joining St James’ Park last summer, David could offer manager Eddie Howe an additional high-quality and versatile option. Valued at £50 million, David has demonstrated his ability to play on the wing or in an attacking midfield role.

However, it would be unexpected to see Newcastle prioritize a forward signing next month, given their urgent need for reinforcements in midfield, which is likely to be their primary focus in the January transfer window.
