Breaking News: Auburn super star wide receiver from Auburn University and a punter from the United States have inked contracts with the NFL

On Tuesday, two additional players hailing from high schools and colleges in Alabama secured NFL reserve/future contracts. This follows the trend set on Monday when 13 players with Alabama football connections signed similar contracts. Among them, wide receiver Seth Williams renewed his contract with his 2023 team, having spent the season on the Jacksonville Jaguars’ practice squad after an impressive career at Paul Bryant High School and Auburn.

Corliss Waitman punts for the Denver Broncos

Former South Alabama punter Corliss Waitman, who did not conclude the 2023 season on an NFL roster, is set to join the Chicago Bears in March after signing a reserve/future deal. These contracts allow players to be added to an NFL team’s roster during the offseason expansion from 53 to 90 players, beginning on March 13, the first day of the NFL’s 2023 business year. The new signees gain eligibility for participation in offseason activities such as workouts, minicamps, and OTAs as official team members.

It’s noteworthy that only players not currently on NFL active rosters are eligible to sign reserve/future contracts. Seth Williams, a sixth-round draft pick in 2021, previously played two games for the Denver Broncos, while Corliss Waitman, who led the NFL in punts in 2022, signed with the Chicago Bears after being released from the New England Patriots’ practice squad in October 2023 without making a regular-season appearance.

The list of players from Alabama high schools and colleges who inked reserve/future contracts on Monday includes offensive lineman Chandler Brewer, running back Spencer Brown, safety Shyheim Carter, defensive end DJ Coleman, offensive lineman D.J. Fluker, cornerback Allan George, cornerback Tae Hayes, wide receiver Shedrick Jackson, tight end Jordan Matthews, tight end John Samuel Shenker, offensive lineman Lachavious Simmons, wide receiver Cam Sims, and center Darryl Williams, each joining various NFL teams.
