Premier league top side now considering signing 19-year-old striker instead of Ivan Toney

Journalist David Ornstein has reported that Chelsea is closely monitoring Brighton striker Evan Ferguson. According to his information shared with The Athletic, the Blues are contemplating the prospect of acquiring the young talent instead of making a substantial investment in Ivan Toney.

Despite being just 19 years old, Ferguson is showing great promise as a Premier League striker. His recent hat-trick indicates that he ranks among the top forwards in the league.

While many anticipated Chelsea pursuing Toney to address their goal-scoring challenges in January, Ornstein suggests that Ferguson is among several names being considered as potential targets.

Ornstein stated, “If Ivan Toney isn’t currently a top priority for Chelsea, as I’ve reported, other options like Osimhen are likely on their radar. While the potential complications, including the cost and Champions League qualification uncertainties, might arise in the pursuit of players like Osimhen from Napoli, he remains in the pool of strikers being assessed by elite clubs.”

He added, “Names like Martinez, Sesko, Ferguson, and Boniface are frequently brought up by those involved in recruitment. The demand for quality strikers continues to surpass the available options.”

The article also mentions that Toney could be on the move either in January or the summer, and it remains uncertain if Arsenal will actively pursue him. Additionally, it raises questions about Chelsea’s willingness to engage with Brighton in the transfer market again, especially considering the previous episode involving the potential loss of signing Moises Caicedo last summer.
