Sean Mannion, the former quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings, is transitioning from playing on the field to coaching from the sidelines. ESPN’s Brady Henderson reports that Mannion, who has spent almost a decade as an NFL quarterback, is hanging up his helmet to join the coaching staff of the Green Bay Packers. The Oregon State graduate is expected to contribute to the development of quarterbacks within the team.
Former Rams, Vikings and Seahawks QB Sean Mannion is ending his nine-year NFL playing career and has accepted a position on the Packers’ coaching staff, a source tells me. He’ll work with QBs and the passing game.

Selected by the St. Louis Rams in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft, Sean Mannion’s playing career spanned a decade, during which he participated in only 10 games for the Rams in his initial four seasons before moving to the Minnesota Vikings. From 2019 to 2021, Mannion had limited appearances, featuring in four games for the Vikings and ultimately being released. His three starts resulted in a winless record.
After his time with the Vikings, the 31-year-old quarterback briefly joined the Seattle Seahawks’ practice squad but did not have the opportunity to play in an NFL game for them. Over his nine-year NFL career, Mannion completed 67 passes, securing one touchdown while throwing three interceptions.
Despite his limited on-field experience, Mannion’s intellectual acumen earned him recognition as being “destined” for a coaching role in the future.
I’ve heard from several people over the last few years who said Mannion was destined to eventually coach because of his intelligence and understanding of the game. He’ll get that start in Green Bay after finishing last season on the Seahawks’ practice squad.
