LATEST: Auburn announces new defensive line coach

According to a press release from Auburn University on Friday, Vontrell King-Williams has been formally appointed to the position of defensive tackles coach. This announcement corroborates earlier reports by Rivals and 247Sports on Wednesday.

In the 2023 season, King-Williams served as an analyst on Auburn’s staff and had previously worked under head coach Hugh Freeze at Liberty University. He now fills the role vacated by Jeremy Garrett, who is said to have accepted a position with the Jacksonville Jaguars, although this move has not been officially confirmed yet.

With Garrett’s departure, there has been a restructuring within Auburn’s defensive staff. Josh Aldridge, who previously coached linebackers in 2023, will now oversee the edge rushers. Defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin will take on the responsibility of coaching inside linebackers, while co-defensive coordinator Charles Kelly will shift to coaching safeties, and Wesley McGriff will focus on coaching cornerbacks.

As of February 9th, Auburn’s coaching staff for the 2024 season is as follows:

– Head coach: Hugh Freeze
– Offensive coordinator: Derrick Nix
– Defensive coordinator: D.J. Durkin
– Co-defensive coordinator: Charles Kelly
– Quarterbacks coach: Kent Austin
– Running backs coach: Derrick Nix
– Wide receivers coach: Marcus Davis
– Tight ends coach: Ben Aigamaua
– Offensive line coach: Jake Thornton
– Defensive tackles coach: Vontrell King-Williams
– Edge rushers coach: Josh Aldridge
– Linebackers coach: D.J. Durkin
– Cornerbacks coach: Wesley McGriff
– Safeties coach: Charles Kelly

The coaching staff is now complete as they head into spring practices and prepare for the 2024 season. Any future changes would result from the departure of current staff members.
