REPORT: Detroit Tigers’ Young Stud Positive Injury update Heading into Spring Training

Detroit Tigers’ emerging star Riley Greene reports that his surgically mended non-throwing elbow feels “regular” just as spring training approaches. According to Tigers’ journalist Chris McCosky on social media, Greene commented on his swing following his Tommy John surgery on his right elbow, saying, “The initial swings I took during my hitting regimen went smoothly. I didn’t experience any discomfort. It genuinely feels like business as usual now.”

Riley Greene On Verge Of Leading Detroit Tigers Renaissance

While Riley Greene may be gradually introduced to spring training activities this year, it appears likely that he will be ready to take the field for the Tigers once Opening Day arrives at the end of March. This is particularly encouraging news for the Tigers, who have aspirations of contending in the 2024 season. Following a second-place finish in 2023, the team has bolstered its roster with experienced players such as Kenta Maeda, Jack Flaherty, and Mark Canha. Additionally, they anticipate full and healthy contributions from Greene, Casey Mize, Tarik Skubal, and Matt Manning, which would significantly aid in their ongoing development.

Despite battling multiple injuries in 2023 and appearing in only 99 games, the 23-year-old Greene demonstrated strong performance when on the field. He posted a batting average of .288 with 11 home runs, 37 RBIs, and seven stolen bases. Alongside Spencer Torkelson, Greene forms a formidable young core of position players under the guidance of manager A.J. Hinch.

Greene made his major league debut in 2022 and currently boasts a slash line of .271/.335/.739 with 16 home runs.

As pitchers and catchers report to spring training for the Tigers this week, anticipation builds for the team’s regular season opener on March 28 against division rivals, the Chicago White Sox.
