A notable ex-member of the New York Yankees may find himself joining their main competitor. Jordan Montgomery, formerly with the Yankees, has emerged as a top free agent target. Following successful stints with the St. Louis Cardinals and Texas Rangers in 2023, he has garnered considerable interest this offseason.
After being traded from New York to St. Louis in 2022, Montgomery excelled, particularly shining with Texas, contributing to their journey to the World Series. Now, as he explores his next team, reports indicate that he has engaged in discussions with the Boston Red Sox regarding a potential contract, as per ESPN’s Buster Olney.
Olney stated, “The Red Sox recently held a virtual meeting with Jordan Montgomery. He would provide a boost to their 2024 rotation and, if signed long-term, could become a fixture in their pitching staff. Financially, Boston appears capable of making this move.”
While Montgomery has attracted interest from multiple teams, the Red Sox seem to be a leading contender. Although there has been speculation about a return to New York, it appears unlikely at present.
At 31 years old, Montgomery may not secure the hefty contract he initially anticipated, but a deal seems imminent. Boston is in dire need of pitching reinforcements, making Montgomery a viable option for them.
