BREAKING: Denver sign defensive key from Texas Longhorns to a deal worth $7 million

The Denver Broncos have secured the services of defensive back PJ Locke for the upcoming 2024 NFL season and beyond. Locke, a former standout at Texas Longhorns, has inked a two-year contract worth $7 million with Denver, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.

According to sources, the Broncos have re-signed safety PJ Locke to a two-year deal worth $7 million initially, with the potential to reach $9 million. This move comes as Justin Simmons departs from the team.

Locke entered the NFL scene in 2019 as an undrafted free agent with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He later joined the Broncos’ practice squad in December of the same year, experiencing multiple stints with the team before securing a permanent deal in 2023, signing a one-year contract worth $1.4 million.

During the 2023 NFL season, Locke featured in 12 games, starting eight of them. He showcased his skills with an interception, five passes defended, and two forced fumbles, contributing to the Broncos’ defense despite their struggles. Despite being rated positively by Pro Football Focus for his run defense and pass rush, Locke’s coverage performance was less impressive.

Nonetheless, Locke now has the opportunity to validate the Broncos’ decision to invest in him with a multi-year contract. He is expected to play an expanded role on defense in the upcoming 2024 season.
