Dan Orlovsky, a former NFL quarterback turned analyst, has weighed in on the quarterback situation facing the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Steelers have significantly bolstered their quarterback lineup by acquiring Russell Wilson and Justin Fields.
Both Wilson, a Super Bowl champion, and Fields, a highly talented young quarterback, bring extensive experience as NFL starters to the table.
There’s widespread anticipation among NFL observers that the Steelers will hold an open competition for the starting quarterback position.
Orlovsky expressed his confidence in Justin Fields on the Mina Kimes Show, noting his exceptional physical abilities.
Regarding the impending showdown between Wilson and Fields, Orlovsky highlighted the importance of addressing their respective weaknesses. He pointed out that Wilson has endured 100 sacks over the past two seasons, while Fields isn’t far behind with 99, which surpasses most other quarterbacks’ numbers.
He emphasized the necessity for both quarterbacks to minimize negative plays such as fumbles, sacks, and interceptions, citing Fields’ 145 negative plays and Wilson’s 135 over the last two seasons.
Orlovsky concluded by emphasizing that the quarterback who demonstrates an ability to limit mistakes will ultimately secure the starting role for the Steelers.
