The University of Miami’s baseball team suffered a 6-2 defeat against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Friday afternoon at Frank Eck Stadium.
Head coach J.D. Arteaga commented on the team’s lack of energy, attributing it to their first away game with a smaller crowd. Despite taking an early lead with Jack Scanlon’s RBI double in the second inning, the Hurricanes couldn’t maintain momentum.
Although Miami’s starter Gage Ziehl kept Notre Dame hitless for four innings and retired 12 of the first 13 batters, the Fighting Irish responded strongly, scoring six runs in their last four innings at bat, including a notable three-run seventh inning.
Caden Spivey, Notre Dame’s right-hander, pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings to secure the win in relief.
Despite the loss, Scanlon recorded his first three-hit performance as a Hurricane.
Miami aims to bounce back in the series on Saturday with the first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m.
