The Orioles and Brewers have finalized a trade involving three players. The Orioles acquire right-handers Thyago Vieira and Aneuris Rodriguez, while the Brewers receive minor league righty Garrett Stallings in return.
Vieira, the only one with major league experience among the trio, has a career 6.18 ERA over 51 innings in the majors. Despite his high-90s fastball, he has struggled with consistency and hasn’t translated his velocity into high strikeout numbers. However, his past success in NPB and with the Brewers’ Triple-A team in 2023 suggests potential for improvement, which the Orioles hope to capitalize on, given Vieira’s age of 31.
Rodriguez, still a few weeks shy of his 20th birthday, is seen as a long-term prospect. He has limited professional experience, primarily in the Dominican Summer League and rookie ball, with a combined 3.67 ERA over 83 1/3 innings.
Stallings, originally a fifth-round pick for the Angels in 2019, came to the Orioles’ organization in a trade in December 2020. He has a career 5.41 ERA over 379 1/3 minor league innings, including a 5.52 ERA in 101 innings at Triple-A. Stallings has been used both as a starter and a reliever in the Orioles’ farm system.
